- Leave the bandage on for as long as possible, up to 5 days after the procedure.
- Wash your hands thoroughly before removing the bandage.
- Remove the bandage gently and wash the tattoo using clear, liquid hand soap and warm water.
- Avoid using washcloths, sponges, exfoliants, or any abrasive materials.
- Dry the tattoo by air drying or patting gently with a clean paper towel.
- Do not wipe the area.
- Once dry, apply a thin layer of tattoo-specific aftercare ointment from a clean, uncontaminated source.
- Reapply 2–3 times daily or as needed to relieve discomfort or itching.
- Only apply ointment when the tattoo feels dry — it should not look wet or greasy, just soft to the touch.
- Do not use lotion or other skincare products unless specifically approved by your tattoo artist.
- Quick showers are fine, but avoid the following for at least 2 weeks:
- Bathtubs
- Hot tubs
- Swimming pools
- Lakes, oceans, or any other natural water sources
- Prolonged soaking of any kind
- Keep the fresh tattoo away from pets and saliva to avoid infection.
- During healing, wear clean, loose-fitting clothing and sleep on fresh, clean sheets or linens.
- Think of your tattoo as an open wound—because it is. Proper care is essential for smooth healing. Some scabbing is normal, but DO NOT pick or scratch your tattoo, as this can lead to pigment loss.
- Avoid sun exposureand tanning beds for a minimum of 2 weeks.
- Sunlight can cause fading and affect the tattoo’s healing.
- After healing, use sunscreen regularly to protect the tattoo long-term.
- Do not use petroleum-based products such as Vaseline or Aquaphor.
- These can slow healing and may cause irritation or rashes around the tattoo.
- Infection is rare but possible. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you notice signs of infection, such as fever, increased pain, redness and swelling, or foul-smelling discharge.
